New Coder Equipment and Skills Requirements
Welcome to The Coding Network! You will need the following equipment, software, tools and PC skills to be prepared to be an “at home” coder. Please contact us if you have any questions.
Personal computer with at least the following capability (We highly recommend not using a computer that was manufactured more than three years ago):
Hardware:
- Intel CPU: Quad core 2GHZ or Higher
- AMD CPU: Quad core 3GHZ or Higher
- 8 GB RAM minimum recommended
- 500 GB Standard Hard Drive (250 GB Solid State Hard Drive)
- Monitor: 1080p or higher (we strongly recommend having more than a single screen).
- Internet: Broadband with 10 Mbs download and 1.0 Mbs upload.
> No Linux machines, Chrome OS machines, or Microsoft Copilot+ PCs are permitted at this time.

* Mac OS X users can use Encoder Pro and other Windows-specific software by running Windows on the Mac using virtual machine software or BootCamp. Parallels is the best virtual machine software to run Windows seamlessly in Mac OS X. Oracle VirtualBox is another option. Additional purchases may apply in doing this. If you need to use Encoder Pro on your Mac, please contact support@codingnetwork.com for more details on how this can be done.
At this time, due to issues with the software, and the danger of drive corruption, we cannot recommend the Symantec Encryption Product.
- Basic PC skills including the ability to manage and back up your important files on a day to day basis, ability to send and receive emails with attachments, ability to operate Internet Explorer, ability to use Microsoft Excel, ability to open, edit, delete and save folders and files. Ability to learn new applications such as basic image processing editing.
- Broadband Internet running at least 10mb Download/1mb Upload (budget satellite internet or ANY cellular hotspot are not recommended)
- Printer
- Crosscut Paper Shredder (required for HIPPA compliance.)
- Lockable cabinet to hold paper medical records that are in process. (HIPAA Compliance)
- Cell phone (for client calls)
- TCN Zimbra email account will be provided to be used for client/Coding Network communication
- Current CPT codebook
- Current ICD-10 codebook
- Current HCPCS codebook
- Preferred but may not be required for all clients: Fax machine or HIPAA Compliant e-fax account(Interfax recommended). A separate phone line for the fax is preferable but not required.
- Private, no traffic workspace (per HIPAA)
- Optional: Copy machine
- The Coding Network will add you to our account with EncoderPro.
