Internal ICD-10 Readiness Plan

Per our Internal ICD-10 Readiness Plan, all of TCN’s coders are ICD-10 ready as of October 1, 2015. To accomplish this goal, TCN has used approximately 24 AHIMA certified ICD-10 trainers since December 31, 2014. These trainers have helped to teach our coding team as well as provide them with a resource should they confront any challenges in the new coding landscape.

All TCN coders are required to take both an AAPC ICD-10 overview class and the AAPC’s class for their specific specialty, if available. For the 40+ other specialties for which the AAPC does not offer training modules, TCN has either created our own specialty-specific content or looked to AHIMA and others for additional specialty courses. TCN coders certified by the AAPC were required to pass their ICD-10 Proficiency Assessment by March 31, 2014. Going forward, TCN coders will be utilizing Optum’s EncoderPro ICD-10 modules to verify coding and to reinforce our coders’ efforts.

TCN has been coding selected batches of our clients’ services using both ICD-9 and ICD-10 in the 1st Quarter of 2014. The batches are used for training and ICD-10 quality assurance purposes.  We will continue this process every month through September 30, 2015.
